Is a convex lens "diverging" lens and a concave lens "converging lens"?

We, clmates versus our Physics teachers have beene arguing this lately. We clmates unite that a convex lens is a converging lens and a concave lens is a diverging lens...but our teachers insists the opposite!!! What can you say??? Who is correct, us or our teacher??? Also, we have four references that supports our idea.
