Excessive oil sludge in the engine?

I have a 98 corolla. I took it to jiffy lube the other day and they told me i had excessive oil sludge in my engine. I'm wondering what i need to do to fix it? should i take it in to a mechanic? They told me i should get it flushed/cleaned?
